Introduction to S7-1500 Selection

1.The user program runs in the CPU module. There is no program load memory in the CPU module; instead, the program is stored in a dedicated memory card, similar to the concept of S7-300. The memory card needs to be ordered separately. Currently, there are three CPU models:

• CPU 1511-1 PN

• CPU 1513-2 PN

• CPU 1516-3 PN/DP

These three CPU models are ranked from low to high in performance. They differ in terms of instruction execution speed, various address space sizes, memory capacity, types and quantities of integrated communication ports, etc. For details, please refer to the corresponding CPU manual.

2.For a PLC system, the user program processes the direct logical relationship between input/output (I/O) signals. Therefore, the system often needs to be configured with I/O modules. The CPU module of S7-1500 has no integrated I/O, and I/O signals are input and output through expanded I/O modules. Common I/O signals include:

• Digital Input (DI): that is, switching signal input (also called discrete signal input)

• Digital Output (DQ): switching signal output

• Analog Input (AI): continuous quantity input, such as voltage -10V ~ +10V, 4 ~ 20mA, etc.

• Analog Output (AQ): continuous quantity output

• There are also Pulse Input (PI), Pulse Output (PQ), etc.
